Liberty Village Toronto Photography: Paola and Nicola

When I received Michelle’s inquiry – a gift for her cousin Paola in Toronto; I didn’t quite believe it. Michelle is in Florida and it isn’t every day that I organize portrait sessions across the world. Paola, Nicola, and I met here in Toronto. The inter webs can bring us all together and that is pretty neat, The world is such a small place.

Paola and Nicola braved my coldest session of the year in Liberty Village in Toronto. Enjoy:

I normally add pictures to a blog post and rearrange them until I am happy, then I spend a while picking the right music to set the mood, and finally I sit down to write the commentary. For Natalie and Dan’s Nobleton Engagement Photography I’ve completely broken the pattern. Natalie is one of my best friends – we met when I was still in grade school and Natalie was in high school she was so much older and wiser, not to mention pretty and cool, but it wasn’t until after high school when we were both working together selling pool chemicals, (oh yes you can call us the Chlorine Queens!) that we really became close.

We both grew up within a block of each other in Nobleton, and though we originally planned the shoot up north, the weather didn’t agree and we stayed put. Looking at the pictures I can’t believe I didn’t suggest we shoot in Nobleton all along. It is Nat and Dan’s home, it’s where all of their family lives and on a rainy day in the fall when I sun peaks through right before it sets, it is beautiful.

Courtney and Mike have known each other for years, they decided together one night they were meant to be.

It was so simple.

I could go on about the shoot and the day but I’d rather keep this post short and simple.

Enjoy the photos.

Zach and Kim moved to Guelph on the same day I did, and when I suggested we start their downtown guelph engagement photography at their new house I was so surprised that I didn’t have to drive! We are practically neighbors, and though I did end up driving (I wasn’t sure about the rain!) I could have taken a nice leisurely stroll.

Ever since the last workshop I took, I’ve been all about scoping out locations before hand. So when Zach and Kim gave me free range around Guelph I basically already had a map in my head of where I wanted to shoot. (Though I wouldn’t go as far as the exact shots I wanted to get I had an idea.) We walked around the river, stopped for ice cream, used the exposed brick around the red brick coffee shop and ended at up at The Cornerstone my favourite vegetarian restaurant in Guelph.

Zach and Kim are great together, they are laid back and fun and I can’t wait for their wedding this August. During dinner we talked about how much we love cottage country and northern Ontario. All three of us have spent summers up in Georgian Bay and we agreed Guelph is a good medium between the nature you get up there and the city living. It is nice to be able to walk to the grocery store, and have neighbours, but it is also great to be out enjoying the outdoors.

So enough rambling, I hope you enjoy a short selection of Zach and Kim’s guelph engagement photography.

And I’ll finish with one of my favourites from the night taken on the patio of the Red Brick Cafe! It didn’t quite fit with the green colours above, but I still wanted to include it in this blog post.

Rebecca and Jordan found a perfect house in Leslieville shortly after we first met. We started their session there and had a great chat, its always nice to break the ice without the camera to start and ease into a photo-session. The Leslieville neighbourhood in Toronto is a great up and coming area with tons of exposed brick, and murals. It lends itself perfectly for photos and I couldn’t think of a better place to start off their toronto engagement photography.

I feel in love with this part of Toronto, I’ve been there a lot for work in the last month or so but it was great to have the time to walk around on foot and soak in city living on Sunday nights. From the small pubs and coffee shops to the back alleyways Leslieville is extremely photogenic and I’m so glad Jordan and Rebecca got me out there.

From Leslieville we moved to the Don Valley Brickworks, and this place has more character than I every could have imagined. In my head I was expecting bricks, and a refurbished event venue which is great, but I was more than happy to incorporate a giant flower, a wooden waterfall, and killer light into these photos.

I love it when couples do something a little different. Leslieville and the Brickworks were a perfect fit for Rebecca and Jordan because they like city living, and the urban feel fits perfectly. It isn’t for everyone and that is okay; everyone is different, and I really encourage my couples to pick a location that has some meaning to them. That way you don’t just end up with a set of pretty photos but years from now you’ll look back and think “oh yeah remember when…”

I hope you enjoy these Monday morning photos and as always I love to hear your comments either at the bottom of this post or facebook! Enjoy!
